Zoho Invoice vs DueChat: free invoicing or a focused chasing workflow?
Compare Zoho Invoice and DueChat on reminders, pricing, payment collection and workflow. Pick the tool that fixes your actual unpaid-invoice problem.
You do not need another subscription simply because a client paid late. You need to know where your current process breaks. Is producing an accurate invoice the problem, or does the invoice already exist while you keep postponing the follow-up?
Zoho Invoice and DueChat overlap on reminders, but their published positioning is different. Zoho offers a broad, free invoicing product. DueChat concentrates on scheduled invoice chasing, payment links on your Stripe account and working with assistants from the tools you already use. Neither product can guarantee that a disputed invoice will be paid.
This comparison uses the vendors' public pages checked on 6 November 2026. It is written by DueChat, so the recommendation below deliberately includes cases where the free competitor is the more sensible choice.
The short answer
Choose Zoho Invoice if you want invoices, quotes, time tracking, expense recording and a customer portal in one free product, and its published limits fit your business.
Consider DueChat if your core pain is remembering to chase invoices, you want the published 7/14/30-day reminder ladder, and you value Gmail sending, connected Stripe checkout and assistant connections. You should test the workflow before accepting another recurring cost.
If Zoho's existing reminders already solve your problem, adding DueChat may duplicate work rather than remove it. Start with the outcome you need, not the number of features on a landing page.
What the live pricing pages actually say
Zoho Invoice's pricing page says the product is free. Its FAQ lists up to two users, three projects and 500 invoices per year, with Zoho Invoice branding. These are the published limits checked on 6 November 2026, not a promise that every business will qualify for every regional configuration.
DueChat's homepage and pricing FAQ state Pro is €19/month or €190/year after a 30-day trial. A card is required when starting the trial; cancel before day 30 to avoid the subscription charge. Raw HTML extraction of the plan cards showed different figures from that FAQ; the client-rendered prices and checkout were not verified. Confirm the displayed amount and billing interval before subscribing.
A free software plan is not the same as free payment processing. Compare gateway fees, currency conversion and your existing bookkeeping costs separately. This article does not quote processor rates because they depend on the account and payment method.

When Zoho Invoice is the better fit
Imagine a freelance consultant who needs to turn tracked project hours into invoices, record expenses and let customers see their documents in one portal. Zoho's published features address that broader administrative workflow. A separate chasing tool may offer little value if the consultant is already comfortable with Zoho's reminders.
The free plan deserves a fair test. Check annual invoice volume, number of users and project needs against the current limits. Then run a complete workflow: quote, invoice, reminder and payment recording. Test with your own details, not an unsuspecting customer's inbox.
Also check exports and bookkeeping handoff. Your accountant needs reliable records, not merely a nicer reminder email. If changing products would create duplicate customer records or two competing invoice numbers, solve that before moving anything.
When DueChat deserves a trial
DueChat may suit a freelancer or small agency whose invoices are already created but whose follow-up depends on someone remembering every due date. Its homepage describes importing open invoices from Xero or QuickBooks, sending chase emails from Gmail and showing due dates on Google Calendar.
The practical benefit to evaluate is continuity: can you see what is overdue, send the appropriate reminder, offer a working payment route and pause when a client raises a genuine issue? The homepage FAQ explains the chasing workflow; the homepage feature section covers the payment side.
Assistant connections are optional. You should not have to adopt an AI workflow just to send a reminder. DueChat states that scheduled reminders run without an assistant, while sensitive assistant actions require approval. Do not interpret that as a promise that every scheduled message asks for a fresh confirmation.
A useful test for agencies and SaaS teams
For an agency, pick a straightforward, undisputed invoice and document who owns follow-up. Avoid testing a new ladder on a sensitive client negotiation. Check that the sender, balance and payment link match the invoice and that the owner knows how to pause the chase.
For a SaaS business, distinguish customer invoices from failed subscription charges. This comparison is about receivables chasing. It does not establish that DueChat replaces subscription retry logic, revenue recognition or an enterprise collections system. Keep the existing billing system authoritative unless a supported integration has been verified.
For either business, define success in operational terms: fewer missed follow-ups, accurate balances and no reminders after confirmed payment. Do not set a trial goal around an invented percentage reduction in late payments.
Avoid paying twice for the same reminder
List the reminders already running in your accounting product, payment processor and email tools. Two polite messages sent by two systems can still feel like pressure to a customer. Choose one owner for the chase and document what each system does.
Before importing, reconcile balances and remove invoices already settled by bank transfer. Keep invoice identifiers unchanged wherever possible. If you cannot explain which record is authoritative, pause the migration rather than hoping automation will resolve conflicting data.
See the existing invoicing alternatives hub for adjacent comparisons. It should help narrow a decision, not persuade you to change tools unnecessarily.
FAQ
Does Zoho Invoice have automated payment reminders?
Yes. Both its pricing and feature pages explicitly list automated reminders. “Only DueChat automates reminders” would be an inaccurate comparison.
Is DueChat free after the trial?
The public offer for new signups is a 30-day Pro trial followed by a paid subscription unless cancelled. A card is required. Check the current checkout terms and price before starting.
Can I use DueChat with invoices created elsewhere?
DueChat publicly documents open-invoice import from Xero and QuickBooks. Do not assume a native Zoho import or continuous two-way synchronization: neither was verified for this comparison.
Which one will make a difficult client pay?
Neither can guarantee payment. A disputed amount, missing purchase order or financially distressed customer needs human handling. Software can improve consistency, not settle the underlying disagreement.
Try the workflow before you switch
Start your 30-day Pro trial. Card required; cancel before day 30 and pay nothing. The public homepage and pricing FAQ list €19/month or €190/year afterward; confirm the current amount and billing interval at checkout.
Already happy with Zoho's free reminders? Keep them. Try DueChat only if its focused chasing workflow solves a gap you can name.
